What type of combo impresses you more?

I was reading a thread on another forum (http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62552) and it got me to thinking.

So I ask the same question here. Which impresses you more? Seeing a big-money car run fast and put down the numbers or a budget car that is a well thought out combo but can't run quite as quick/make as much power on a dyno.

I like the backyard builds. The big money racers have alway's seamed to be the "I got more money than you, so i'll always be faster than you" attitude. They need to get their hands dirty once in a while if you ask me. But I will admit, if it wasn't for them, where would we be today?

I agree with this, 100%, I think the backyard builder is way more impressive than the guy that just throws money at a car and goes fast because of someone else's knowledge. I have to wonder rerod what your idea of a big money racer is? I have a lot of high dollar parts in my car but I can spend the extra money on high dollar parts over budget parts because I do everything to my car myself as far as assembly, fabrication, maintenance and tuning, I think if you have the money to make the car fast and you are the brains and the wrench behind it all then the high dollar guy is just as deserving of respect as the budget guy.

I'm curious as to your logic behind that statement if you're referring to the "high-dollar boys". Not trying to quarrel, just curious as to the logic.

Personally, I feel that it is the backyard, budget guys that deserve more praise. In my opinion, I think that a majority of the "go faster" engineering has come from such.

I figured you may pick up on that as will speedo, I am not trying to offend you or speedo, if you have to pay someone then thats how it is, if you had the fastest car around and you bragged about it and put other people down because of it, and called there car shit or slow then I would have no respect for a person that pays to have there car done, but you don't do that, you respect other people for what they have and in turn people respect you for what you have no matter how you got it, and I look at it this way, every time someone spends money to buy a car like yours and pays someone to build it, they are saving another old car from the crusher or the dirt track. does that make you feal better?? still friends buddy??

With the way the rules are set to race a certain class today, the secret's don't last forever, and someone is alway's willing to share thier secert for the right price.

I always like the big dollar racers when they get rid of parts they are usually cheap then the budget racers like me can pick them up and try them if they work got a good deal if they don't I just sell them.

Well said! Certainly no hard feelings! I know that I haven't done much without either paying for it or having a definite "guiding hand" while doing the work. I think a big reason is because I just don't have a lot of the "know how" to do a lot of the stuff. I do know that with this Malibu that I probably wouldn't be any where near as far as I am if I had to foot the bill for labor on top of everything. I have been using the "guiding hand" as much as possible to learn more so I can do more myself. Yeah, they're telling me how to do stuff but they're also letting me go through the motions then, which is how I learn best.

I understand what you're saying. I guess what I'm saying is that sometimes it's the common car guy that is the one developing/experimenting/building the new products. I guess, in essence, that guy probably works for the big money racer though.

Now we're on the same page. I have friends that have the know how and the in's and out's. I'm not building my motor with my bare hands but I have some awesome friends that helping me find/build a motor for my car. But it is also a "budget build" in my eyes. We are taking what I have and making something out of it without saying "here is my checking account, have at it". I'm learning more than I ever thought I would and all effort put forth by putting a bunch of backyarders together to build something fun is what it's all about to me.
