  • How GM spends bail out money.....

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/...pe=companyNews

(Reuters) - Manchester United Ltd.'s deal with General Motors Co. to sponsor the hugely popular soccer club's shirts will bring in $559 million over the agreement's seven-year term, the club said in a regulatory filing Friday.
At least they fired the guy responsible.

Duh. A shirt sponsor that isn't printed on the shirts?

Among the criticisms of the transaction was that the sponsorship did not appear to include Chevrolet’s name on the jerseys of the soccer club’s players. Unlike the major American sports, advertising is a prominent feature of soccer uniforms, giving the sponsors what are essentially kicking and running billboards for television cameras and photographers.

    Wow.

Maybe this guy could've had some money kicked back his way? One would think that it should have been approved by the management board before a contract was signed.

Regardless...GM needs to attract potential buyers by advertising and/or sponsorships targeted to a young market base other than in the US. In order to continue to attract future buyers...they will have to spend money advertising.

Sounds like you and many others will continue to focus on any money GM spends by using the old "government bailout money" comment whenever the occasion arises.

The bottom line is that GM makes some of the best products on the market. For decades they've been an iconic company and have invested not 50 billion but tens of billions of dollars into the US economy. Their problem was that they let their costs get out of control by underfunded pensions and health care for their workers. The bailout was prudent in order to keep the whole auto industry from collapsing. Not bailing them out would have cost the government and US economy a helluva lot more than 50 billion. The only problem I had with the bailout was that they should have allowed them to go through an organized bankruptcy. Instead, the gov chose to screw shareholders and pick who they best thought the money should go to. They screwed many dealership owners by forcing them to close, putting thousands out of work.

Of course, ther'll be haters no matter what GM does.

The government spent nearly 800 billion they can't account for, but people and the left wing tilted media give them a free ticket without questioning it. At least with GM, we know where the money went and have the ability to get it paid back. Can't say that about the 800 billion unaccounted-for dollars the government shot down the toilet.
