  • Intake Ports on a new Camaro LT1

Wow looks like the old Big Block 396 ports to me.

Maybe GM knows something we don't know about port size? I mean--they are flying in stock form from the factory.

I know I've found things that work on my LS1 won't work on a Gen 1. One example is total timing. The old gen engines need 36-42 deg or more total timing for max performance. My LS1 works best at 26 deg total. Combustion chambers are so much more efficient, so there's no need for more. If my old small cathedral ports were the ticket, there'd be no need to go any larger. Just like if the old reliable gen 1s were the ticket, we wouldn't have the LS engines.

Just goes to show how marvelous the gen 1s are though, considering they were designed back in '55, but technology and design now offers quite an alternative powertrain.

Here's an interesting article from a GM source:

Engineers racked up some 10 million hours of computational analysis in developing the LT1, with six million dedicated alone to the combustion.
