Well it's true, auto/diesel shop is not what it used to be, this is our project car, it started as a turbo supra, students built a 383 chev stroker, a turbo 350 trans and installed it where the 6 cyl 5 speed used to be. While I built the cage another instructor was prepping the body for paint which he did in a week end. An excellent recruiting tool as well as community service project to alert students to the dangers of street racing and distractions while driving as well as driving while impaired. Our entire school has shown support for this project that began as a dream 4 years ago.

That there is a real nice project for kids to start on. Fabrication is what they need to learn as not everything for a car is sold in a box.

        the results

Our district has 6 schools and we are the only tech center for all those 11th and 12th graders. Each year we were loosing 2 to 3 students in fatal crashes involving speed and sometimes alcohol. We travel to schools with the car and give a talk about speed, distractions and impairment. In two years time we had visited all the schools and since then, 3 years there has only been one student involved in a fatal incident. This year we are taking the program to the track. The high school drags is on our list for this year. The students are getting training they may have otherwise missed and its all hands on stuff. Our school is supportive now, a little iffy in the beginning though, but they can't dispute the results.
